once the drug has reached it's expration date it should be thrown out. do not believe it is as simple as the loss of effectiveness, some drugs lose their effectiveness while others become more potent, some to a dangerous degree. when the expiration date hits, throw them out.

This is a difficult question to answer, because there is no exact way to know.

Contrary to what some believe, items with expiration dates such as food, drugs, and the like do not suddenly "go bad" when the expiration date is reached. With food, that date reflects the longest time the manufacturer thinks that the product will be 100% indistinguishable from a fresh sample. With canned goods, the expiration date is really just a guess. I've got canned goods that are easily 5, 10 years old, and they are just fine.

With prescription and OTC meds, the expiration date reflects the estimated last date of certified potency. Drugs do degrade over time. In most cases, it's potency that reduces, and in a few, they can become toxic over a long period of time past the expiry date. Keeping items in the refrigerator will extend their lives well past the expiration date, but you should keep them there from the beginning of acquisition in order for this to work best.

I don't get too jacked up about taking something past its expiration date. If it's an inexpensive OTC drug, at some point past the date you should probably throw it out and replace it. If its an expensive prescription med that you want to keep it around for awhile just in case, it probably won't hurt.

You can hit the net and check for your specific drug, I have done this in the past.

Hope this helps.

Now often there is basically expiration dates on a liquid form of drugs like take as an social gathering Penicillin, it rather is a liquid we would desire to assert the expiration date in basic terms have been given right here up and it rather is previous it. the medicine might now no longer take finished deliver on spite of the undemanding reality that it will no longer harm you.
