I personally enjoy Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. The hoodoo rock formations are absolutely amazing and there a ton of trails that wind down amongst them. It is otherworldly to be down there in the red rocks looking up at the twisted and carved rock.

A close second would be the Redwoods in Northern California. There is a quietness as you stand in the shade of the giant trees. Sound is just sucked up and dissipated in all of the ferns and redwood needles.

Third would be Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Take the natural entrance instead of the elevator, if you can. Descending deeper and deeper as you look back the entrance getting smaller and smaller in the distance gives you a sense of perspective on just how insignificant you are. Once you reach the main room, your brain struggles to comprehend that a ceiling can be so far away. In the tallest section of the Big Room, the distance from the floor to the ceiling is over 220'. That's big enough for a 20 story building.

Yosemite. Great views and history, plus a fun drive to get there.
