My visa expires soon, and we are in the process of having it extended at the MHA, however I'm not sure if it will be done in time. We have visited twice already and it doesn't seem to be the speediest process in the world... Does anyone know what the penalties are for overstay? I read somewhere that there is a 15 day allowance beyond the expiration, and perhaps a fine. Would like to know if anyone has any answer, since the internet doesn't seem to yield any results!

If you are showing your good intentions by applying for extension "at the appropriate authority well in time" (note each word in quotes) you won't face penalty but would be given reasonable time to leave the country. For rest of your observations, the foremost thing is that you are trying to blame / crib for your own faults. As a responsible person, you should have taken due precaution well in time for extension than facing this anxiety and possibilities of penal actions.

yup, an immigration lawyer should help

besides, u'r embassy / consulate can help you on this matter
& if need be guide u in matter
the very fact that u've applied 4 an extension entails you to a grace period & proves your bonafide intentions !
the application form receipt should stand u in good stead !

Business - 5 years - Documents to prove bonafide purpose (Company’s letter, etc.).
Yes - a business visa is extendable in india

I don't think there is any grace period. It is best to contact an immigration lawyer. They are more current on these issues.
