God does give us more than we can handle.....I am living proof of that, I pray to him for guidance, I pray for him for help, but things don't change as hard as I try. Am I handling it all....well, I'm still alive, and that's probably the only way to answer that. Am I happy, NO. What doesn't kill us will only make us stronger....what is the definition of kill in that statement? OK, your spirit can be killed,,,mine is just about there, and once that is gone its only a matter of time. I figure it will kill me, because the stress of this "wonderful" life, is causing health problems that will no doubt do me in....Does God give us more than we can handle....Boy, does he ever!

It's common to many different religions and philsophies, in variants.

Some phrase it as the idea that you will never be faced with a challenge that is beyond your ability to rise to, or that anything you face can be handled in some manner by finding the lesson within it.

it originates from desperation-people trying to comfort someone who's ben thru a tragedy by saying"God knew u were strong enough to handle this".its the WORST thing 2 say to someone who has lost a child,or heard that their spouse is fatally ill.its also a fallacy-to be sure, most people are resilient in varying degrees, and will bounce back eventually, but for others, this will not be the case.some people will be going thru breakdowns, others will actually commit suicide-yes,circumstances indeed, were too much for them to handle.nor did God look down and say"gee, ethel's pretty strong.she'll be just fine, think i'll take her child today">nonsense! as humans with free will, and as biological beings,we are subject to actions of others, age, disease and accident.God doesnt pick and choose victims based on ability,he doesnt pick victims at all.on earth,we are subject to our limitations as finite, biological organisms.as long as our soul is still housed in a body,it can suffer, but i dont think God wakes up with an agenda everyday to purposely afflict those he deems capable of handling it !!!!that would make him sort of like a sadistic drill-sargeant in the sky,not a merciful God who gives us our freedom,as we give our own children freedom, altho in so doing we cannot protect them from their own or others mistakes.God gives us the gift of thinking and acting for ourselves-unfortunately-it can be a dangerous world !!!!! its the price we pay in order not to be a puppet, but a fully mature and autonomous being .

I Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

cause people like to think that they are able to handle everything that comes their way... and anything that seems difficult to handle, they say to themselves ... god wouldn't do that to them. They need to feel like they can handle anything that will happen to them. Otherwise they may breakdown and do god knows what.

What does not kill you will make you stronger. What God gives us are life learning lessons to help make us stronger people. We tackle the problem no matter what is is and we become more educated, wiser and stronger. That is why people say that phrase.
