I think Lil 'w' is the worst president we've ever been stuck with.
Another good question would be, have we ever had a president that didn't care what the Americans felt was right for their country and did ONLY what he wants the country to do....

Ladies and Gentlemen. We are witnessing the closest think to a dictatorship our great country has ever been forced to endure since the occupation of our land by Brittish troops.

Only difference is this dictator uses religion and our own tax-dollar funded police and army to bring us to submission.

I say don't impeach the little weasel.......prosecute him.

Well, Warren Harding did very poorly too....described in a section in Malcolm Gladwell's book "Blink." I guess the guy was very good looking and charismatic, basically nominated in some backroom choice & felt historically to be one of the weakest presidents ever. Elected in 1920, He died 27 months into term, and Calvin Coolidge took over the presidency.

From Wilkipedia, discussing historians polls of presidents:

"Three Presidents—George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin D. Roosevelt—always are ranked at the top of the known lists. Normally ranking just below those three are Presidents Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Woodrow Wilson. The remaining "top 10" ranks are often rounded out by Andrew Jackson, Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower and James K. Polk. In recent polls, James Madison, James Monroe and Ronald Reagan have sometimes been ranked in the top 10. Ranking at the bottom of most polls are Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, and Warren G. Harding at the very bottom."

Now, looking this up I learned something, which is how T. Roosevelt got on Mt. Rushmore with the other big guys--seems the VP who took over after Harding was Calvin Coolidge, & he & the sculptor made the choices.

Following the attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001, all polls of President Bush's approval rating showed a huge and relatively immediate upward spike. For example, the
percentage of Americans reporting approval of Bush's job performance climbed from 51% in the Gallup poll of September 10, 2001 to a remarkable 86% in the next poll released on September 15. This was the largest change between consecutive presidential approval polls ever reported by
Gallup in more than 65 years. Similarly, the Washington Post-ABC News poll showed an increase in presidential approval from 55% reported on September 9, 2001, to 86% on September
13.

Although you didn't specifically say Bush, I assume that is who your question was about.

Lowest rated was Nixon, who of course resigned.

Not even Hoover had a lower rating! IF Republicans are not voted out en mass, there is something seriously wrong with Americans..that is for sure..there is not ONE honest Republican in office today. And the entire pack is headed up by the biggest liar the office has ever seen. Why we are so complacent about this dangerous lunatic is beyond me! Are we so disillusioned by this party that we do nothing?

This cannot be determined definitively, as polls as lame a tool as they are weren't used throughout our history so he can only be compared to those in the period where this began on.
Polls are not a good source of information. Questions can't be clinical and therefore always carry some form of Bias intentional or not and is often abused.

But you could argue that the Southern States view of Lincoln could count as a high disapproval rating and he didn't complete his term.

Until the last century, approval was never considered or measured, however polls that are 5 question show higher approval ratings than 4 question polls that always skew negatively. By sheer coincidence, most polls done of Bush's approval rating are 4 question polls.

i think Lincoln was pretty unpopular in his time too, he paid with his life, but is looked back upon as the great emancipator, at least our president is willing to do what he thinks is right despite the polls. And I wish our president no will ill despite the outcome of the comparison. Being president is dangerous business.
