The transmission grounds to the engine where they are bolted together. The vehicle has three grounds. One between the engine and the negative post of the battery, one from the engine to the frame, and one to the body to the engine. If any one of these is loose or disconnected, the electrical components won't work properly on the vehicle, including the transmission if it is electrically controlled.
