Fighting a useless war with pakistan, economy drained left behind for both countries, Badly requiring western investment, High levels of political corruption, Basically a moderate african country by todays standard.
I really cant see things improving, the greatest problem in india is pakistan and vice versa in pakistan, peoples mentality needs to change for both countries to develop beyond a certain point

It will still be south of China and Nepal.
Really, I think if they can handle a few internal problems, they could be well on their way to being an economic force in the world. The numbers make that a certainty sooner or later. The speed of that transition rests mainly with India. (Same holds true of China.)
As the world's largest democracy, they have the foundations to make this transition. China will take longer, but since they have put in some free market reforms, they will see change as well.
I hope to see them further peaceful relations with Pakistan. It's funny, my neighbors (next door, across the street) are Pakistani and Indian. They get along so well.
Anyway, I see the US and other nations trying to be strong allies with India, not for military gain, but for economic well being.
