Do you prefer it be spelled Kelan or Kellan?

As folks said 'Kelan' would be pronounced k-ee-lan, while 'Kellan' is pronounced with the short e.

Got to say I'm partial to 'Kellan' as that is my name.

You also see it spelled 'Kellen' but pronounced the same. Either way its an anglicization of Caolan. This spelling was popularized by Kellen Winslow.

It is a very rare name, though getting more popular in the last few years. About ten years ago most other Kellan's I met were grown women who had changed their name from 'Ellen' to 'Kellen', but in the last 5 years people are actually using it conciously as a Gaelic boys name rather then "something I just made up".

And yeah as a boy you will get teased with being called "Helen" or even "Helen Keller" (the sounds are suggestive I guess, *shrug*) in elementary school, but it pretty much fell away by Jr. High.

Kelan with a long e sounds like a cleaning product. Kellan would be okay, but kids will tease him and call him "Helen" or "Melon". You always have to think about the worst thing kids can do with a name. But is is different enough to not have five of them in his grade, and *normal* enough sounding that people don't think he is from another country or planet.

I love that name. I saw that name for the first time a couple weeks ago on MTV, and thought that name would be so cool for a little boy. Not too trendy, but not boring! I prefer it to be spelled Kelan.

I am not sure of your pronounciation. I like it either way, but I like Keelan (with a long e sound) better than Kelan (with a short e). Both are great though. I love unique names! Good luck; picking a good name is really stressfull.

Wow! I first heard this name 6 years ago. My daughter was in Kindergaten at the time and her teacher named her baby Kellan. It seemed like such a weird name then, but it grew on everyone. It's still a rare name, but definetly use two LL's, I think, I mean that's up to you of course.
But Kellan is a cool name.

Hate to say it, but I think the name is awful (whichever way you spell it).

If you have already decided then..."it sounds lovely, congratulations"

nb. I believe All the Answers is a popular name this year ;-)

yes, I love that name. My brother-in-law is Kellan. I've never seen it spelled any other way.
