It seems I've tried just about everything so far, paid, free and shareware; also one program working or several. Now still innundated. Are they ALL rip-offs????

I don't visit pornsites or gamesites. Also the ad-aware and spybot and spyware blaster never worked in the past. Don't mean to be difficult but I wouldn't have asked if I hadn't tried everything already!

...that's the spybot S & D.... I've also used firefox, and that doesn't help either!

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster

BUT, if you have already tried these two, then do your backups and start to reformat and reinstall Windows from scratch. Update everything, install your Anti-virus and these two free anti-spyware solutions.

Go to to http://www.mozilla.com and get the free browser FireFox. Surfing will be safer with this, instead of Internet Explorer.

Your hard work is the only prevention. (Quit looking at Porn and opening SPAM).

No program is perfect, even the anti spyware / antivirus ones. Reformat your hard drive and reinstall your OS and programs - it's the quicker and safest way, believe it, especially after all the hard time you've been passing through - you deserve a brand new software installation on your PC. Then, do not install programs from untrusted sources, such as downloaded ones that you have not thoroughly used. Use other browser than IE. Check all and every option in the browsers you have installed on your PC to ensure dangerous options are disabled - java and javascript in e-mails, activeX, automatic downloads, etc. If you have broadband, put the modem on standby or turn it off all the time you aren't actually using the net. Use a well known antivirus and antimalware program (be careful of programs that are only antispyware or antiadware, prefer the suites that have antivirus together with antimalware protection), adjust it's options so it is more strict with files when scanning. Use a popup and advertisement blocker - much malware comes from that. In the case a popup or popunder gets through, close the window immediately using Alt + F4 (don't click on any link in the advertisement window, even if it's a link to "close" it). Use web based mail instead of e-mail client programs. If your antivirus / antimalware doesn't has firewall, install a personal firewall too. Don't visit or allow people to visit unsafe sites on your computer, usually containing sex, incredible offers, casino online, etc. on your PC. And once in a while, check your computer for installed programs: press WinKey + R, type msconfig (Enter) and check the last tab (named Initialization or similar) for all programs that start up with your Windows - uncheck all suspicious ones, press OK. Hope you succeed with your PC. Bye :-) !

Spyware can't be completely prevented but try these steps:

Use Spyware Blaster (prevents spyware in the 1st place rather than removing it)
Install all security updates from microsoft.com
Don't look at porn sites (or use a non-IE browser to view them with javascript turned off)
Disable ActiveX or use something like Firefox

(nb Don't pay for anti-spyware products you probably will get ripped off)

You are visiting sites or downloading things that give you spyware. How can your antivirus programs get rid of spyware when you keep on reinfecting your computer? Find somewhere else to play on the internet.
