I am wondering if people behave differently on the net than they do in person. Any comments welcome, Thanks.

Not only me, but I have had this discussion with others. The net allows us to "anonymously" be more open with our thoughts and feelings.

Definately, 100%

I am almost paralysed with shyness when I meet people. I don't socialise, go to parties etc. But on the internet I chat to people for hours, and I really enjoy it!!
Otherwise in person, I can stutter if I get very flustered, I also don't hear them properly, I get depressed when I have to meet people and generally cry before having to be put forcably in a social situation. But on the net, I'm there ; )

Yeah, i would say they find it easer to talk on the net than they do in real life, bcuz on the net there is no pressure, no people around which usually makes shy people nervous and you can post your opinion without you being at least pre-judged for it. So shy people have more confidence this way.

Yes, I'd say so. Its a more open environment where your ideas, opinions don't face any prejudice, where your physical traits don't matter. Your online identity is determined by what you type online, not how you act in real life. Shy people prefer online communication because it is a well crafted environment for creating a new identity for themselves.

Yes, the internet is wonderful for introverts because they can speak their mind and not feel threatened by the face to face interaction. They can say what they really feel and it doesn't matter because of the anonymous nature of computers.

I think most people are probably less shy about speaking up because it's an anonymous forum. There would be less fear of retribution because the people they are talking to aren't face to face.

Yes. I do because they are more comfortable facing a computer rather than a person. Plus they have the freedom to express themselves more fully than than they would in front of people.
They feel more at ease in saying what they really want to say without fear of rejection by using a computer to say it.
