You get all kinds of advice about this little tweek and that little setting and even just tell you to go to DSL. Most likely there is nothing you can do about the speed your computer runs at over the phone line. The 56k modem and the fact that everything has to be changed from one system to another as it goes out and comes in keep you from gatting much speed. Even if it sais 56k you will never reach that point. About the best you will do it 41k if yu are not far from the ISP and have an extreemly quiet line. Ambiant noises on the line do slow it down. Then there is the matter of how many people are using the same line out of the ISP. All the services we use as home PC users are shared with others so if there is more than the system can handle at a decent speed then everyone on that line will slow down. Just like the traffic around town. when it is light then everything goes along very well but at rush hour it slows to a wht seems like a snails pace. The same is true with nearly all internet ISP providers. Some have enough lanes for the traffic to move quite well even in rush hour but many do not. If you can't get DSL or one of the other faster services then most likely you will just have to put up with what you have. There is the mater of your security programs that can and do slow things a lot. Not picking on NOrton persay but if you have Norton services trying to check for everything possible then you will loose half your speed right at your computer. Other systems do the same so only use the parts of the security you actually need to use. There is no way to be perfictaly safe all the time. Good luck. the fastes service I have seen any place is in Korea. They have a great internet service there. Beats the USA by a mile.

they have this internet connection booster but I don't think it will give you any good especially modems are only fixed to do 56kbps. Only solution is go for DSL or Cable internet. Depends on you're internet provider if their service sux better live with it.
