Your water can leak it is called premauture rupture of the membranes, they will usually attempt to put the person on strict bedrest at the point to attempt to decrease the loss of fluids and hopefully get the pregnancy to go on for another 5wks or longer if possible, I think that like 85% of people go into labor within a week of this happening and almost 100% will deliver prematurely. Happened to my bestfriend and she delivered at 27wks...water started leaking at 20wks.

Bleeding is usually the most prominent sign of a miscarriage. If her water sprung a leak it is NOT GOOD especially at 20 weeks. The baby would most likely not survive. But there are things the hospital or her ob can do to stop it. She needs to go in asap.

It is very unlikely that her water broke or is leaking...it may just be an increase in vaginal discharge...when pregnant the body goes through a lot of changes and hormones are higher. She should call the doctor and have them check her out. They can either do a nitrazine test on her or they can do a ferning test..where they take a swab of the liquid and put it under the microscope when amniotic fluid is dry it makes a ferning effect. If she thinks she is leaking she needs to be checked out. If she is it could be serious and harm her and her baby!

Water leaking is not a sign of a miscarriage but labor (in her case premature labor) Its impossible to answer this question as you do not explain why you assume that her amniotic sac is leaking. Anyway an amniotic sac can actually refill itself somewhat but its a very serious complication at 5 months which requires immediate medical attention if she wants to keep the baby-so go to the doctor immediately

No. Severe bleeding and severe menstrual-like cramping is a sign of miscarriage. The bag of waters leaking or breaking is the amniotic sac and it means she's going into preterm labor. Tell her she needs to go to the hospital ASAP!

I don't know how to put this... No, it doesn't sound like a miscarriage because that is often felt through spotting/bleeding and lower-abdomen cramps.

However, if it is premature labour like some people are suggesting, the chances of a baby surviving outside the womb at 20 weeks are slim. Research shows that babies are developed and healthy enough only to be born prematurely at 6 months.

Get her to the hospital though, don't ask Yahoo!

Call your doctor immmediately! Water breaking this early may be a sign of a miscarriage -- but it could also be something else. Either way, you will need to be seen by a professional. Stay off your feet as much as possible.

CALL NOW!

she needs to go to the hospital. if the water is leaking that means (as a possibility) that maybe her uterus is half the size as a normal uterus. This happened to my best friend and they had to do an emergency c-section. She really needs to call her doctor, let him know and then follow his instructions- most likely to go to the hospital where they can test the fluid and keep and eye on her and the baby.

She needs to see her OB/GYN ASAP. Her water can leak but may not be a misscarriage! Strict bedrest and observation is the best thing for her. She can make it later in the pregnancy if She sees her OB/GYN and they admit her for strict bedrest!
