You will need to appeal against it and if your appeal is succesful, your ticket will be cancelled. There are ways around but they are not altogether legal.

Go on the web and type in "parking tickets" and see what comes up. There are a few sites that will tell you what to do for a fee.I followed some advice and quashed one for not displaying in a "pay and display". I had no change, and was gone 5 minutes, came back, ticket. It is a scam.It would have cost me £30. I never accept anything at face value anymore, challenge it!.

You appeal to the local authority that issued the ticket (explaining the reason why you think the ticket was illegally issued) If you fail this appeal you can make a further appeal to the TFL (Traffic for London , if it was in London) if outside London you will need to find out who the transport authority is

If it wasn't to long a go and you know some one with a garage or tow truck that will give you a receipt for saying the vehicle was broken down not parked and was recovered to them then your sorted.
I used do roadside recovery in London none of my friends ever paid for parking tickets!! I would provide proof of the broken down vehicle details, time, street, date etc... they would write a letter and include a copy of the broken down vehicle details.
Hey presto any letter from any garage or tow firm will do.
SORTED

If it's a Local Authority Ticket, then there should (must) be a list of what to do to appeal it, printed on it.
Follow the instructions. If you can come up wtih even a reasonable explanation, then they will probably allow it, cos it's too much trouble to fight it.

go to court and contest the ticket, or if your state allows you to contest by mail, do it that way.
