I have been playing the guitar (eletric) for about a year and the only problem i have is my fingers arent playing with their tips no matter how hard i try. Also my thumb i snt the support its my whole dam palm. Any ideas how to fix this? Or a little excercise to gradually fix it.

Also i Am Wondering If there is a way to get the affect they have on Dirty Little secret (by all american rejects) on a amp without the FX feature. (treble middle bass gain)

You just need to slow down and play the right way, I'm not trying to be a smartass, but the only way to fix it is to make a habit of using your finger tips. Find a good teacher to help. A good teacher can tell you what you are doing wrong and how to fix it.
As for the sound, you really need an effects pedal, the amp and guitar alone can do a lot (assuming you have a decent guitar and amp), but you need a good pedal.

Jim is right! Is that simple...you need some discipline.

But, a tip for you.

When I was having trouble keeping my thumb in the right place I once taped my thumb into the correct place and then played scales....it helped. You have to get used to doing it so that you can do it and be relaxed!

Make sure and use you thumb as the anchor, as you will have better range of motion when moving up and down the fretboard. You may change the angle of the neck when you play to find the spot that's most comfortable for you.
