There is no "silver bullet" for flea control. The secret to controlling fleas is to control the eggs and larvae. They are far more numerous than adults. Adult fleas make up only about 2 percent of the total population. Larvae don't feed on animals, as do the adults. Flea larvae feed on organic debris, primarily dry blood. That's why keeping the pets and environment clean is so important. Flea larvae live wherever the eggs have fallen, not on the animals. They do not bite animals or humans. They do,however, grow up to be adults unless you murder them while they're young. Unfortunately, I don't have space here to list all the recommended steps for flea control. I can recommend this book ,if you are interested. There are NO synthetic chemicals recommended for pets or environment! Because they do not work!

I don't know about any chemicals to use, but I always keep bushes and grasses short where my pets go in the yard. I do confine their space this time of year for the "flea reason" ...Also I use one of the flea products on my pets..any seem to work, such as Advantage, Frontline, etc. I use it from spring till winter. Ask your vet which would be safe for longer periods of time..Good luck.
