Windows XP does have a backup program. However, only with XP Professional is this program installed by default.
If you're running the XP Home flavor, then you need to run the "Add Windows Components" dialog in the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel applet. The Backup.exe program is kept on the operating system CD.

However ... you do need the operating system CD for that. The recovery CDs you made when you first booted your computer likely will not help you.

you may be able to download the cd's from the manufacturer of your pc, or look through your menu's for an appliction to do so, most back up software your talking about sits in a hidden partition on your drive use tools menu /folder options and select show all files to find the folder, it may have a backup start icon.

buy yourself a USB drive, walmart has 1 gig for 50 bucks or less, keep anything worth keeping on those, as for back up,, why bother,, once in awhile it is good to format your hard drive and start from scratch, ,alot of hidden programs and such fill up your computer, and are never found by spyware programs, make sure that you have your XP disk if you bought your computer from a store,
