How do you (and i assume you live or have lived for a long time outside of the US) perceive Americans?

NOT AMERICA THE COUNTRY, but AMERICANS as people.

Americans love fastfood, love spending money, are generally polygamous, are always doing things to alter their God-given bodies, love to party, and have a very liberated and careless outlook in life. They must be the luckiest nation in the whole world; yet they still complain about everything. They love spending money on vacations and tours, esp out of the country ones. Ofcourse, they love to cuss.

On the positive side, they are very ambitious people. They love to have fun, and I love their flexibility (in terms of interacting with people from other nations). They could be very friendly, casual, and very communicative. Ofcourse, one thing that you can never rule out is America's love for entertainment esp tv, movies and music.

We are the new Israelis, God's next generation of favorites! We are kewl! We are full of enthusiasm! We are full of spirit! We are full of hogwash & yet we have proven to be the cream of the crops! We aren't much different than the anomolly of light. We are what darkness isn't & can't be. We are the result of the mix of thousands of years of humanity! We are extremely passionate! Extremely stubborn and all forgiving! We are easily violent but we are green & growing! We are extremely progressive, generous to a fault & hold our thin traditions close to our hearts! We are superficial & extremely deep! We are extremely smart & enjoy being asses! We own a small part of the Northern American continent but we are described as an entire hemisphere, owning the earth & moon! We're glad we are citizens of the best democracy on God's earth! In Christ Jesus name I am a United States of American! Y. A. H. -5 vs +2

My generalization of Americans would be that they are rude, loud and throw their money around. The last part could just be that the exchange rate in NZ is well in their favour.

Like all stereotypes, this is based on the Americans who visit New Zealand and doesn't represent all of the cross section of the population. There are plenty of amazing people in America, my wife is one :)

I teach English in a foreign country. This was a question I put to my high school students.
Their responses:
arrogant
overweight
loud
no sense of style
friendly
warm
rude

As you can see, some of the responses are contradictory, but it makes sense, depending on what they are exposed to.
As for myself, I've seen more arrogant, rude and loud Americans as tourists here than the other, unfortunately!

But they must not have been Texans LOL

I am an American and proud to be...However I have just recently moved to Germany with the Military.

I have found that we are rude, wasteful, people who really don't respect other cultures...Now I don't mean everybody...But there is a lot.
Example: Germany like it quite...American will drive their cars/trucks with music blaring that everybody in within a mile can hear them...rude.

I hate it that we are like that but I can only call it like it is.

I live outside America, and I have found, that yes we are rude, wasteful, and so on, there is no body like us in the world, and I miss that place more than anything. You never appreciate it until it's gone. I hate Japan, and I wish the Japs were rude and obnoxious, there is just no place like home.
