in the Gulf of Mexico -- St. Petersburg felt the shaking -- I heard our doors rattle - thought someone was coming in. Anyone know HOW this could happen? I didn't think we had fault lines that would cause such a thing????? Wow -- and I thought we only had to worry about hurricanes, tornados and lightning (we're in lightning capitol of the world too)......anyone else hear about this? Happened right before 11 EST.

Yes (it's been over two hours since the quake) and I felt it very slightly over here in Casselberry, just north of Orlando. Didn't amount to much more than a very slight shaking that lasted all of 2-3 seconds. It did wake my cat up , however. It was all over the local news at noon. As for fault lines their are many all over the world. Much more than one would think!

I went to the USGS monitor and here is what I found:

Magnitude 5.8 10 Sept. 2006 14:56:07 Gulf of Mexico Longitude: 86W Latitude: 26N

It happened so recently that news of it hasn't been posted on any news sites. Watch CNN.

The earth is full of surprises. The very power of the earth is why it will survive yet again another human re-population. The idea of "saving the planet' is stupid, the planet will not cease to exist in the rest of time that remains before the humans currently living on the fragile crust kill themselves off in one way or another. The planet changes every day, and we humans have a very hard time accepting those changes.lol

There is an earthquake zone in Missouri. this is probably a continuation of that. We have felt shakes up in North Dakota before but very, very slight. I think these come from the Zone in Missouri.
