Wow, that IS a fascinating article.
The fact that it had to be cycled through the snopes urban myths machine makes it doubly so.
It's a "call to arms" article on several levels and I appreciate that it addresses Europe in general. They are no longer a bunch of individual countries the size of one of the US states but a combined force -- economically if nothing else.
What the author seems to disregard is that all countries have a "hands off" policy when it comes to meddling in another country. It does take an extreme action (like invading another country) for another to feel like they may get involved. It took major league balls to get involved in the war in Iraq -- many countries frowned on principle alone.
How do we know when to police another country, what are our standards? Moral? Religious? Human Rights? Democracy?
Do we feel so superior that we must thrust our own culture upon another country? These are very tough choices to make and I have sympathy for all our world's leaders (those without a personal agenda).
Sitting here in my computer chair with a lone voice -- I would love for Europe to get involved. I would love for China and India and Brazil and Thailand and Mexico to get involved.
With the one goal -- peace.

Yes pops, Europe is indeed popping up but progress is somewhat slow which is understandable because the situation there is totally unlike in other countries!
EU is a combination of 25 different countries (maybe this number is on the increase) and the fact that they have made considerable sacrifices to form the European Union itself is commendable! .
Terrorism is rampant everywhere but absolutely invisible! Fighting an enemy who suddenly pops up and disappears is a Herculean task! And, Europe is equally vulnerable, as other places, to terrorism and the various countries in there are pretty alert too, as reflected in the recent uncovering of a terrorist plot in London!
What needs to be launched is not a war on terrorism, but a war on poverty; a war on ignorance; a war on irresponsibility; a war on lying and misleading people, war on over-exploitation and so on!

This is the opinion of one man,not shared by many here in Europe...Americans should wake up and realize that this so called "war on terror" is leading nowhere and that is a huge mistake...And that Bush is not defending the US nor fighting for freedom or democracy of Iraq and Afghanistan...It's all about oil...

I hope they wake up. After seeing how the Radical muslims blew up statutes from other religions in Afghanistan, Imagine them incharge of the Rodin museum or the Louve in France.

yin and yang, black and white, conservative and liberal, hot and cold, none can exist without the other, for each defines the other.
Not everyone can lead, nor should they
The only time you know you are doing something important is if half the people disagree
IN short.. sure.. maybe the europeans are just like the old lady hiding behind the shades.. but that is there role, it needs to be filled.

NO they are asleep still! This is VERY old and representative of only one person. Europe is sickenly LIBERAL, which explains why they have all these terrorist problems even now here.

What costs billions of lives and hatred are wars. And wars will arise if we follow the ideas that the article proposes.
