When they can afford it. And before that, your mom may be able to get you a cell phone that will only let you call 911 and her for emergencies.

You Mom obviously has her reasons for not letting you get a cell phone. Has she given you any reasons why in particular, or has she just said no? You may want to have a discussion with her, remain calm, don't get upset over it, but just ask her what her reasons are. Possibly she thinks that she cannot pay for an additional expense, or she thinks that you will be spending too much time on the phone when you should be doing other things like homework or helping with household chores. I would not think that a young person in my household would need to have a cellphone until they could show me that they could use it responsibly and/or pay for it out of their own earnings. I know some parents who have allowed their children to have a prepaid phone at age fifteen and they are responsible with it, and other young people who are in college, and are irresponsible. I think if you talk it over a bit more with your Mom, it will help you to understand why she is saying no, at this time. Have a nice day!

I think when you've gotten a car, and can drive, that's a good cell-phone age. Before that, honestly, what the hell are you doing that you need to be in contact with people enough to have a cell? There's always you're home-phone.
But, when you're driving, it's a really big safety thing to have a cell-phone. It would be a good way to convince your mum to get a cell when you're 16... tell her you're worried that some day you might be out, and the car could break down, and what would you do if you didn't have a cell phone? Ha-ha. worked for me!
:-) Good luck hun, and don't fret, it's only a year away, it'll go faster than you think.

you don't need a cell phone. I know you want one because everyone else has one, but let me tell you this:
by growing up without one, you learn a much greater life lesson.
You're not going to have what everyone else has when you're an adult. You need to prepare for that realization now.
Cell phones are not a necessity, they are a true privilege. People back in the day didn't even have house phones. Trust me, you'll survive without one.
And by not having contact at your disposal right now, you'll learn how to deal when you lose it, or it dies when you grow up and get your own. I guarantee you the other kids won't have a clue what to do if they get stuck in a situation, and don't have their cell phones. You'll be stronger.
(Plus, take advantage of the fact that your parents can't always get ahold of you; therefore you can hang out a little longer and not be bothered by them!)

When my kids can work and afford to pay for the cell phone then I will allow it. I would consider getting them those cell phones that have certain number programmed in them and thats the only numbers they can call. It would be used for emergency purposes only. I would do that around your age, but they would also have to earn it by doing chores around the house and keeping up grades.

I never had a cell phone until I was almost 30 and I didn't suffer. Use the land line - the old fashioned phone if you have to make calls. There are more important things to life than a stupid cell phone.

My mom let me have a cell phone when I was 11 years old and most of my friends got it younger than I did. Just focus on school first and maybe your mom will see how responsible you are.

I've taken this from the website listed below. Read on to see why you're mom doesn't want you to use a cell phone yet.
An excellent resource tool is Robert Kane's book Cellular Telephone Russian Roulette (Vantage Press, 2001). As a telecommunications expert, Kane presents an impressive collection of studies showing that both government agencies and cell phone manufacturers KNEW YEARS AGO that cell phone radiation at present exposure levels is dangerous to human health. ************He notes that cell phones would be rendered useless if their RF emissions were reduced to safe levels. **********
Reports of illness from heavy cell phone usage and from living or working close to powerful RF transmitters are synchronous with numerous cancer-related lawsuits now being filed against the cell phone industry. The insurance industry sees big trouble ahead. Underwriters for Lloyd's of London refuse to insure phone manufacturers against damage to users' health. Cell phones are today what tobacco was 40 years ago.
Excellent web sites offering up-to-date scientific data on microwave and other radiation issues are:

i guess if a kid has quite a busy schedule and has a lot of other commitments besides school, they should have a cell phone. but with restrictions. im sure ur parents must have been social when they were ur age-- they managed without cells! deal with AIM for now lol
