We all have SECRET MEETINGS, once a month, on how to astound and confound you men.
You must not know of these Meetings, or we would have to kill you.
We recently decided, after a secret ballot, that displays of bellies, midriffs and calves would keep all of you off-balance, and more at our mercy.
We are still debating the Breast Question... :-))
Sorry, can't say any more... :-))

I think it was at least the 80s before it became common, but prostitutes did it all the time before that.
Think about that, girls. To an older man, at least, baring your belly is tantamount to wearing a "for rent" sign. It seems like advertising. But fashion has always flirted with that line: in my day it was mini skirts, because they only look good on girls with good figures and good legs. Then at various times it has been bare as much of the shoulders and cleavage as you dare. Again, only looks good on girls with the right sort of figure, although in this case, the pencil-slim high fashion models can forget it.
Fashion is a very remarkable anthropological study, but don't take it so seriously that you forget it's all going to change. The big gag is that once the poor girls are able to pick up the fashions in second-hand stores, the rich ones have already labeled it out of date.

Didn't Indian women show off their midriffs for a long time with their saris? And the egyptian women? What about belly dancers? The ancient Greeks were quite exposed weren't they?

It is a bit sleezy i must agree. I don't show off my stomach/midriff. I just wear cute tops that fit me right! I think it was mostly movie stars like Brittney Spears and people who used to wear them then it kind of caught on as a celebrity fad then eventually everyone started wearin em'. I really think women need to keep their stomachs to themselfs in public. But I can't judge anyone by they're stomachs, whether they are covered or shown! : ) smiles from me! Good question.

What's wrong with showing calves? I don't mind bellies, as long as it isn't showing pubic hair and thongs, which is just tacky!
