I would have been interested in such a question, but missed it. Perhaps if you reasked the origional question you would have gotten a better response.

Such batons are not illegal in all states, but are highly regulated in many locations - In fact I am currently compiling a list of such locations.

The ASP Baton is a member of the expandable baton family - other popular brands include Monadnock, Ram and First Samco. There are also dozens of manufactures of no-name knock offs. G-Tek (a German brand manufactured by Bonowi is my favorite - the Mercedes of batons)

There are two popular types - friction lock, which is the kind that asp currently carries... and positive lock which is popular among the Monadnock line. In the past there has been great debate about which is better. The positive lock design used to have a problem with collapsing on jab type strikes and the friction lock requires you to slam it on the concrete which causes barbing. Still, as an instructor in a variety of baton systems I feel most comfortable with the fiction lock of the ASP or the positive lock of the G-Tek.

I hope this answered the question that wasn't here.

I did but I didn't see your question. Anyway such baton's are now illegal.

As of the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 2000s, a popular type of telescopic straight baton or friction lock baton is made of steel tubing which collapse together for carrying, and which slides apart to expand into the extended configuration. This device is commonly referred to as a "teleton", "asp", or 'cobra stick'. A small metal knob on the end adds weight when the baton was used as a bludgeon.
