I think it takes a little longer if you eat the afterbirth.

How long it will take to get to normal will depend a lot on your physical condition, how much pregnancy weight you gained, and how much you're willing to commit to getting your pre-pregnancy shape back quickly.
If you've been fit before and during your pregnancy, you'll see improvement quicker. And if you make time and effort to include some exercise into those early weeks (as hard as that is with everything else to do with a new baby), again, you'll shape up faster.
I was back into pre-pregnancy clothes within six weeks of having my first baby. Nursing the baby took the weight off quickly, and I walked as much as I could in those early weeks to help get back muscle tone. I had had a c-section, so I couldn't do a lot of heavy exercise or crunches or lifting, but just walking briskly (with the baby in a front sling) and making sure there were some mild hills and some stairs along my walking path gave me the gentle exercise I could handle then.
Don't expect to leave the hospital in your skinny clothes. You'll be wearing maternity clothes for a few weeks, and then loose, larger size clothes for probably a couple of months after birth at least. But if you manage your diet eating healthy food and get some exercise, you'll see yourself bouncing back quickly!

It really does all depend.
Some woman it just melts away. Others have to really work at it.
When I took my prenatal classes the instructor told us that you gain the most weight with your first, but it is harder to lose with each pregnancy.
I say just get out there and be active. Take your new baby for walks and invent exercises that you can do with your baby. ie use your baby as a weight. That way you get bonding time and weight lifting at the same time.

it depends on the person every one is different with my son i went back down in about a two weeks but with my daughter it took about 4 months!...also depends on if you have natural child birth or a c-section....c- section take longer obviously because you have been cut open & need time to heel before you do any kind of exercising plus your swollen from the surgery....there r really too many variables for you to get an accurate answer on this you can only get opinions!....good luck & congatulations on your baby!!

Well i think im qualified to to answer this question im a mother of 6,4 boys and 2 little angels.I weighed 130lbs. When i had my first child and i only gained 15lbs,half of that i lost before i came home, obviously.and my stomache was as flat as the day before getting pregnant. But as you can probably imagine after 6 kids it doesnt all go back to where its suppose to be.I took a little longer after each child,to get my stomache back, but after each kid it became a task,i actually started working out after baby#2.And ive been working out ever since,as for how long it takes that depends on whether or not you worked out before, whether or not this baby#1 or as i my case baby #6,either way when your belly begins to grow your stomache musle are streched to the max,and whether or not you had muscle tone or plays a big factor, you may want to try crunches they work wonders beleive it or not.As for me after the first 2 mine returned to normal size on its own, after that i had to work at it so after coming home with baby #3 id say i waited 3 weeks beleive it or before i was back working out mainly foccuses on my abs every day at first until i saw results then only a few times a week to maintain my results,i started out working out with Denise Austin on liftime, but i found out afrt so many kids your belly just loses elasticity and the crunches that she was doing just wasnt working for me any more so i had to step it up a notch, that led me to the health network now known as fit tv.I found to of my best friends there,Gilad and Cathe Freidrich who i love and if i ever meet would thank them personally becuase i was at that i mentioned before where plain ole crunches just dont work. I still find it hard these days to keep up. My abs will never be the way they where before but ive seen what not doing anything looks like. people cant believe that i have 6 kids i take pretty good care of myself, but i would like to stress dont do what i did you have to listen to your body, the only reason that i was able to pick right back where i started is becuase my body was used to it,and most doctors would tell that aswell. So i hope i was of help to you and good luck. PS.from a friend

That depends on how much weigt you've gained during your pregnancy. The more you've gained, the more longer it'll take to get back to normal.
Talk to your doctor about diet and exercise.

However long it takes you to get off your butt and stop eating for two. Exercise and eating well along with sleeping when you can will do the trick.
