If you want cheap look up 'freecycle' on yahoo. It's a group by area, where you give things away or ask for things and it has to be 100% free!!!
If you want something you can choose on your own, I would go to the store or ebay. I got a HUGE HUGE cage for my bird for $100 shipped!
The last option is something you already have...or a $10 aquarium at the store. Walmart has good cages for pretty cheap..I'd go with that before the aquarium. Hamsters like to hide, climb, play. They need those things.

Petsmart has really nice cages. However, they can be expensive. A lot of times you can find 10 gallon aquariums at the second hand stores for next to nothing. If you are into making your own cage. Then the clear plastic bins work GREAT. I have several different sizes that I use myself. Depending on the bred of hamster. They are pretty simple to make also. VERY easy to clean.

I found an old fish aquarium that served as a hamster cage. Someone threw out a really big one and I cleaned it out with bleach. Not much metal, just glass......
