nothing wrong with the car, check spark plugs have been changed as these seize in, check the steering rack for leaks.
its chain drive engine, not modern by todays standards but service regularly and have the valve clearances set once a year and it should be fine.

The Ka has the Endura E engine which has a camchain and not a cambelt. The engine is a 40 year old design, based on the original Kent Crossflow from about 1968. The engine is overhead valve, and not overhead cam as most modern engines. In my opinion, it's one of the best engines ever made for reliability. Just keep that oil and filter changed regularly.

Try to find a Ka that has been cared for, has a service history, and do an HPI check on it to make sure it hasn't been crashed, stolen, or outstanding HP on it.

The AA and the RAC both do vehicle exams if you are unsure of your own judgement.

It must tell you something when the majority of the answers to your question are not, shall we say, very complimentary. It really is a horrible little car.
