There are a lot of natural treasures out there.Sometimes we find something really unique in our own backyard & sometimes we find nothing even in places where very few people have ever been to.What was your best catch ever?

Natural treasures covers a lot of territory, but I'll leave out artifacts (like arrow heads or stone axes).

Gem: A series of bright red garnets about 3/8 inch in size. There were 17 in one specimen alone.
Mineral: A specimen of calcite needles, very fragile and hard to come by.
Cave: A number of stalactite tubes (limestone or calcite) which had broken off the ceiling of a cave and were found in the stream bed on the cave floor.
Biological: Fresh water jellyfish (Craspedacusta sowerbyi)
also found, but not collected: Albino white tail deer.

Also under biological would be a 400 year old Indigenous American skull (from a kitchen midden) and the skull of a modern porpoise (while diving). The first was given to local police authorities and the second was donated to a university.

Sure, the best find of all was my wife, but I did not find her, we found each other.

As far as rocks go, the best I've found so far are a few nice quartz crystals. I still drop by Crater of Diamonds State Park now and then, and as soon as I train one of my dogs to sniff out diamonds, I should have some good finds.
