I mean have you noticed the difference between football fans, and other sports fans.
You look at a tennis play and all you see is gentle people sitting in their chairs, and watching the game in a civilized way.
While in any NFL game, the stadium is full of drunk, retarded ragtag freaks, yelling for no obvious reason and behaving like cavemen!!

Sounds like football fans are kind of like baseball fans (throwing batteries at John Rockers), basketball fans (the brawl at the Palace), hockey fans (a couple years back one dad put another one in a coma at a Peewee game), soccer fans (countless incidents of hooliganism and people being trampled to death in overfilled stadiums), and rugby fans (as the saying goes, "the pitch is just as much a part of the game as the pub"). Tennis does not have anywhere near the universal appeal that these sports do. That is to say, it is a self-selecting, 'country club' sport with a much more 'elite' following than the other sports mentioned, all of which can be played and enjoyed by the 'rabble', or as you call them, the "drunk, retarded ragtag freaks" who spend their weeks working in factories and assembly lines as opposed to corporate boardrooms. To each his own.

1) Arsenal 2) Nope, was born in Wales, moved to London when I was 2 3) Lived within walking distance of Highbury, went to every home game from a very young age, fair few away games too. The place I was originally born has no professional Welsh club within 100 miles, not that it matters, have a connection with Arsenal that I don't with other teams, I imagine it's similar for people who weren't born/lived at their supported club, they've established a connection with the club.
