I don't think we have any such obligation.

Well, what you term "your family will miss you crap" is at the heart of the moral and ethical obligation. However, that said, some people have no family, and no friends, and I would state in that case they too have a moral and ethical obligation not to do themselves in. I forget who said it, but I've always loved the saying:
"life is not in the loving, it's in the living"
In a way, that is a moral mandate that holds universally true. When you kill yourself, there is a broader ripple effect that like it or not, is destructive to the braoder community in varying degrees. It provides a spur to others to commit suicide. Many suicides are based on precedent, especially among teens.
But I think the impact that you have on your immediate family, extended family, friends and community is what makes it most reprehensible. No matter how discrongruous the relationships may seem, the pain, guilt and sense of emptiness you give your parents and siblings for a lifetime is unforgivable.
And I'd bet that whoevers sitting on the other side to judge you would agree with this view.

Of course if you have Kids....you have a moral obligation to take into account how they will be effected by this, cared for and what the end result will be in their life.....But other then that....your life is your life. You and only you have the right to decide what you want. I firmly believe some ppl are so destroyed byt things that have happen that even with help they can't escape the very real pain and that for some this would be the only peace and happiness that they will ever achieve. I am so NOT saying that taking your life is right or wrong, just that this is a final choice....always give it time, because nine chances out of ten things will seem better with time....however they are times like with terminal cancer etc....that for that person choosing how they want to die instead of suffering to the bitter end is in MY opinion their choice...and should not be judged by ANYONE!!!!

Obligation to society at large? Hardly. What do they care if you die?
But you did not give yourself life. You had nothing to do with it at all. Your parents didn't even give you "life." They were the vehicles that formed and carried your body, but when you die, that body is still lying on the ground. So your body isn't "life."
Your only obligation lies to the one who actually gave you life. He's the only one who can legitimately take that life from you. Your moral obligation is to Him.

If you provide for your funeral or disposal of your body and the payment of any debt that you may have, you have fulfilled the economic demands of society. This also infers that if you have children, you have provided for them. In your process of self-destruction, remember any costs involved should be covered by you. This includes any public services such as police or health care provided to you.
The moral question is a completely different issue.

For the most yeah, we have an obligation to survive for the future of mankind. But not at any cost either. Certain people should be able to die with dignity, and certain people should just die, LOL.

Our lives are not our own to do with as we please. We were created by God and we belong to him whether we like it or not. We can either submit our lives to God or we can go our own way. Submission is obedience and obedience is the quickest way to freedom because a person who is in obedience to God is not in sin. Sin is bondage to the earth and to the great slave master Satan. Sin is doing things your own way and this always ends in disaster. If you are unhappy with your life, then I suggest that you submit your life to Christ, so that he can relieve your of your burden of original sin. A life in Christ is true freedom and peace. It beats a life in sin any day. Jesus loves you. God bless you.

Yes, you are the property of the State. The State has invested in you in many ways. Therefore, it is illegal, immoral, and unethical for you to destroy the State's natural resources.
