Because it is not a meaningful expression. People mean different things by it. Some people suggest that love, as in obsession with someone, is a psychological disorder. In many early human societies, like early Polynesians, where sex was freely available, and with anybody in the tribe anytime, people did not obsess about finding one partner, and there was no concept of romantic love. Actually, romantic love is a very modern concept, invented in the Middle Ages in Europe. Previously, prearranged marriages and polygamy dominated the world, and love as a precondition of marriage would have been a laughable idea, See the book tilted "How Love Conquered Marriage" for a wonderful history of love, marriage, and sex.

It is not difficult to say I love you. The people who have difficulty saying it usually learned that behavior from their parents. Another possibility is they were deeply hurt in the past after saying I love you, and have never been able to get over it.

It's not difficult for some people. For some people it is. It's easy to SAY it, but it's kinda hard to say it AND mean it. For some people it might be embarrassing to say it and the other doesn't feel the same way.

It's only difficult when you're saying it to someone you really care about because you're afraid the person won't feel the same way or may not say it back.

It's more difficult to say I'm sorry. I guess It's got to do with ego. and commitment. man think that saying I love means they are lowering their defence so they're open to attacks. I don't think it's difficult but don't say it too much though!

With me, I won't say it unless I know that I am in love. I hate those people that say "I Love You" to just anyone. Love is very deep, and when I finally say it to a girlfriend, it meant ALOT. Understand.
