calcite is a fairly common rock, and of relatively low value. So if it is present in a place, is easily extractable and there is demand, then it will have the same effect as any other medium to large sized business: employment, investment in infrastructure to support the mine/quarry, more people will move into the area looking for employment (and therefore there is a need for more businesses to support these people, like shops, real estate, hotels...).

More importantly there needs to be a longer term look at investing in alternative industry so that once the quarry is exhausted there something else to replace it (this was not done for coal mining in wales and the result was mass unemployment once the mines were no longer economically viable).

It really helps plumbers who remove excess lime from pipes due to dissolved limestone.
