Billy club - Police sometimes refer to clubs as impact weapons, or impact tools.
A baton (from batôn, the French for stick) or truncheon (nightstick or billy-club in American English) is essentially a stick of less than arms-length, usually made of wood, plastic, or metal, and carried by law enforcement, correctional, riot control, and security personnel for non-lethal self-defense or combat situations. A baton is used to strike, jab, block, and aid in the application of armlocks.

Any police authority has the right to ask anyone for their personal identification at any time and any place in this country. If you remember, a few years ago there was talk of issuing every person a Federal Identification Card that would have to be carried at all times and produced whenever a police officer asked for it. The arguments for not doing it were the expense, the control ( issue ) and cutoff age. A 14 year old kid can get a gun and use it on an adult just as easily as an 18 or 24 year old can. You don't have to do anything wrong at all for the police to need to see your ID. You'd be surprised how many folks just happen to match the description of someone who has an arrest warrant. The only way to eliminate the person is to see their valid ID.

Various names. Truncheon is the old fashioned 'bobbys' preferred weapon. But called a night-stick in places.
I'm sure the police might refer to them as 'pacifiers'!
