Why is it that whenever you are eating out the waiter or waitress always waits until you have a mouthfull of food before they come up to the table and ask you if everything is okay?

I know, I think it's because it looks like your choking or having a panic attack or something.

You are EATING, so chances are, you will have food in your mouth when the server stops by to check on you. Especially, if you like the food. Just smile and nod if everything is good or use the universal "just a minute, I have food in my mouth signal" by pointing to your mouth and then pointing you index finger (like #1). Then chew, swallow, wipe your mouth with your napkin and let the server know what you need or want. Everyone is there to eat, you are supposed to have food in your mouth.

Is there anything else I can answer for you?

well, if they know their service has been less than stellar, they know you will probably have some complaints. With a mouthful of food you can't very well rattle off your list of gripes, can you?
