MAC has its advantages in the world of Art. Graphic designers use it almost exclusely.
But sharing data, documents in the business world means PC (IBM). With the PC, you get people that are trained on standardized tools. You reach 90 percent of the computer literacy and funtionality.
From a security point of view, the MAC wins. Many people that use MACs on-line simply don't have anti-virus programs. MAC users don't even know what SpyWare is.
So it all depends on what you intend to do with it.
This rumor about Microsoft declaring bankruptcy is a total hoax. Just look at the figures for MSFT and you will see. So unless the whole board of directors is on the way to JAIL, Microsoft is not declaring bankruptcy.
The Mac still only has about a 5% market share.

If you want more choices in terms of software and hardware an IBM or PC is the way to go. These days PC's are just as good as Mac's in terms of developing multimedia applications and graphics.
If your video card or sound card (as an example) were to burn out on you, you could easily get a new one at walmart if you owned a PC (IBM). Apple does not have an industry standard on their parts allowing manufacturers to make parts that are compatible with Apple hardware. So owing an Apple is gonna cost you more as you have to get the parts you need from "Authorized dealers"
I like to build my own computers, so having a PC works well for me. Apple has great computers too, but your software choices are limited.

Macs cost about 13% more but, after three years are priced on the used market at about 50 to 65% of their new price. A 3 year old PC is hard to get any real money for, above the salvage value of some of the parts!
MAC OS X runs both Microsoft Office, and Open Office. Works just fine! No lost work due to crashes!
I service PCs and Macs. The quality of Macs is what makes them hold value. We sell Macs, new, used, refurbished, and there is a need for a virus free, cracker proof computer by folks who just want stability. How fast do you need to run, to do Point of Sale, check Email, and play card games and Tetris?
My Optician runs 9 Flavor iMacs (built in 1999!) in his businesses, in three locations, serving ~400 customers each week, open 7 days .
For a FREE OS to run on a cheap old PC, you can get the FREE http://pclinuxos.com that looks and runs very much like Mac OS X, and is just as virus free, cracker proof. Linux runs upto 50X faster, in all Microsoft games (PC Gaming Mag. Fall '04, MS XP vs. Linux). http://transgaming.org/gamesdb
Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, MSN.com, and the entire Redmond Campus, labs, servers, game teams, and routers, all run Linux on more than 45,000 computers.
Vista will contain a huge amount of BSD and Linux code, since Microsoft has paid up their royalties in 2005, after the multiple court cases they lost, to the Universities that developed them.
Microsoft is trying hard to attain stability in Vista, but, so far, the two Beta tests released didn't show much promise in that direction, and, most of the 150,000 "Microsoft Virus Definitions" still infected.
So, try out a FREE Linux distro on an older PC, and, check out the http://apple.com refurbished listing!
