why aren´t things like crystals that duplicate themselves by splitting, and cars that move be consider living things

I think you are confusing chemical reactions with the ability to reproduce.

chemical reactions are not specific to living things. chemical reactions occur throughout the world. however, reproducing is specific to organisms because only organisms go through mitosis and meiosis, which involve copying DNA.
