I must have received some sort of spyware or something because when I go online I have about 15-20 popups per page, and I have had up to 78. I downloaded Mozilla to try to stop this but all of the pop ups still come up but through Explorer. My thought is get rid of explorer and get rid of the pop ups. I tried to just delete it but it will not delete, must be write protected or something. How can I uninstall or keep explorer from working and bring up these pop ups. First one with an answer that works gets 10 points!!!!

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster

Explorer is built into windows. You can erase all of the shortcuts and links, but it will still be there. I suggest getting rid of the popups by getting spybot s&d from safer-networking.org. Or, use the yahoo popup blocker. Either way, you should be able to get on long enough after using them to get firefox. But, yes, you have spyware. There is a setting in Internet Options that allows you to turn off some popups...I am on an apple at the moment, so I can't recall the exact path to it, but it's somewhere near the Start>Control Panel> Network and Internet Options> Internet options pages. Good Luck.

You need a pop up blocker, or activate one that you might already have installed ??

I use the yahoo toolbar and so far, their pop-up blocker seems to work good for me. Very few get thru.

Also, if you go into IE>>Tools>>Internet Options>>Privacy, the bottom half of that window has a popup blocker you can activate. Maybe this will help you.

Good luck

There is a control panel in the start menu. Click on it. Then choose Add/Remove Programs. Then click on Add/Remove Windows Components. Check off only Internet Explorer. All set! I even checked.

Reinstalling Explorer will probably not solve the problem. Download and run antispyware software and get a popup blocker (e.g. Google).

Make firefox your default browser. To do this, go to tools, options, then under the general tab, make firefox your default browser.

If this doesnt work, try the following(i have all 3) they r all free
1. download avg free virus scanner
2. download ad-aware se personal
3. download zonealarm free edition

Last resort, go to search under start menu. Search for temporary internet files. You will find many files, only delete ones which say temporary internet files. Be wary of this option, deleting the wrong files will harm your computer...like i said, LAST RESORT

good luck!
