Hmm...A-Rod won it on a last place Rangers team in 2003, so David Ortiz, who carried the Red Sox until August, wouldn't be that much of a stretch.

Jeter for MVP is a joke. His numbers, aside from batting average, are not that good.

The MVP should go to Dye, I think, and he's actually from the White Sox, not the Indians. He's carried that team recently, and whether they make the playoffs or not, he's kept them in contention.

You also can't discount Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau of the Twins. Both have meant a ton to that team this season, and they are a World Series contender. Torii Hunter has also been hot lately, although in my opinion hasn't had a good enough season to win the MVP. If you're willing to consider pitchers, then Johan Santana has also had an amazing season for the Twins.

There are so many guys to consider, but I think it should be like this:
1. Dye
2. Mauer
3. Morneau

I think it will be like this:
1. Dye
2. Jeter
3. Morneau

Jermaine Dye, of the Cleveland Indians. Jermaine is the only player in the top 3 offensive categories (batting average, home runs, and RBI). Furthermore, MVP awards are rarely, if ever given to designated hitters, which is why David Ortiz and Travis Haffner are not going to win it. Jermaine Dye is a right fielder with a gold glove under his belt.

An arguement could be made for Vladimir Guerrero, but his power production has been suffering of late. Otherwise, he's among the best in batting average, runs batted in, and is a great fielder. I wouldn't count Miguel Tejada or Derek Jeter completely out, either, although they have just an outside shot.

I know this sounds biased because I am a Red Sox fan, but I think it has to go to Ortiz.... he should have won last year but had to settle for runner-up to A-Rod, who now reminds me of Chuck Knoblauch when throwing to first base.
I believe it should be:
1. Ortiz
2. Joe Mauer
3. Jermaine Dye
4. Derek Jeter
5. Justin Morneau

Derek Jeter. They should not give it to a leader of a team that is ten game s out of first place and 6 out of the wild card. It would be an embarrassment.

Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees.

Unless you watch him everyday, you don't have a true appreciation of what he brings to the team.

Many people say Ortiz, but Dye has a better shot for reasons already answered by other people.
