It was incredibly bold for its time- but society has changed a lot since then (you're talking 35 years ago), it's not shocking or disturbing by today's standards. Comparing today's films to "A Clockwork Orange" is like comparing a movie from the disco 1970's to something from the WWII era.
Movies like Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction and Snatch couldn't have ever been made if not for films like Clockwork Orange taking huge risks and pushing the envelope way back then...
The special effects from the original Star Wars look pretty cheesy nowadays, but back in 1977 they were light-years ahead of anything ever done before .

The movie was amazing and I do not think its overrated. The movie was nothing compared to the book. It has a lot of themes that are not relevant to today's society, like freedom of choice or moral order in society, is evil a part of human nature, and how does art effect society. During the 1960s-70s freedoms where being violated more than they are today.
I rate it 8.4/10

Even though the entertainment business has been developing into a more profane and demoralized industry, this so-called movie is still too vulgar to be put on the shelves in stores. This movie is closer to pornography, and that is what it should be sold as. It is distasteful, has a weak storyline, and holds no educational or entertainment value other than sex and violence, which should not be considered valuable material.I know many will disagree..

It really needs to be seem on a 90 millimeter screen in Dolby surround sound to appreciate its distinct mixture of sight and sound. I saw it in the theatre and it does make a big difference in how impressive the film is. Remember this is supposed to be an ironic film in the was the main character seems oddly attracted to refined culture as motivation for his depraved actions but what ends up happening by movie's end if culture turns those sights and sounds ugly to punish him and as a result makes their behavior cause for his reward.

It was overrated even in its day by the pseudo-intellectuals who were nothing more than pompous presumptuous wannabe "in-crowd." I said so then in a term paper and received the same grade as someone who hailed it as "one of the most significant pieces of work ever" (yes, I got an "A"). It is a waste of time. Go see some cartoons and enjoy yourself.

Watching it now, yeah, it would be overrated and terribly out dated, but I believe at the time it was released, it did cause a bit of a stir. Personally, I don't like it at all.

You probably never saw it uncut.
it is a stunning film, both visually and for the wry, sardonic humor

British lunacy at it's best. I thought it was truly bizarre and wish i'd never seen it as it has polluted my head.

It was disturbing and still is in my opinion. It kind of became one of those cult movies.
