From Essential Aromatherapy:
Clove was used in ancient China as medicine. To fragrance their mouths, the courtiers would hold clove bud in their mouths when speaking to the emperors. the Romans prized clove as food flavoring and as medicine, recognizing it as an important aspect of spice trade.
Essential oil of clove is most used for warts, toothache, muscle pain, tired limbs, rheumatism, colds, flu, stress, diarrhea, chest infections, bronchitis, nausea, scabies, ringworm, and recovery from infections.
It's therapeutic properties are: antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-viral, anti-fungal, analgesic, anti-neuralgic, anti-spasmodic, anti-infectious, and anti-parasitic.
I use it on my knee when it acts up. I've also used it for toothache pain and parasites.

stimulating the muscles, digestion and immune system.
Clove bud essential oil may be used for deep, soothing, antiseptic cleansing of wounds, ulcers, athleteís foot, burns and cuts.
It is a stimulating tonic for painful, inflamed joints and may release breathing troubled by asthma and bronchitis. It has been suggested that the oil can repel insects and parasites both internally and externally if properly applied and some recent work has suggested that clove oil may kill house dust mites when diffused. Researchers in South Korea have done some successful preliminary work on eugenol, a major component of clove, as a counter-anaphylactic in rats.

Be carefult o dilute Clove essential oil. Three drops to one teaspoon of carrier oil (almond, olive, etc). When not diluted, clove oil can be very caustic. I dropped some once on my floor and it ate a whole through the linoleum. Essential oils should not be taken internally.
