Definitely, we are far too dependant on them. Kids grow up not being able to write by hand legibly, or being able to spell as they become so used to being able to use spellchecker. And businesses cannot survive without them, which is rather sad.But has become one of the great get out statements for many too, 'computer error' is so very often blamed when someone has made a mistake, a computer can only do what its told to do! All businesses should have contingency plans, should there be a power failure etc, so they can work around the computers, but many don't, too reliant. As for us, we become almost 'junkies', desperate to see if someone has emailed us, or if someone wants to chat with us, while for some others, it is a lifeline to the outside world. They are here to stay, but individuals really need to be able to keep them in perspective!

I do not believe we are becoming slaves to our computers; simply we have become dependent of having computers as our slaves. We control them and tell them what to do, so we are the masters; however without the computers we have nothing to be the masters of and therefore become powerless. Simple (I think).

I wouldn't say that I am a slave to my computer, but I am a slave to the internet. If my internet was shut off tomorrow I would only use the internet to put music on my mp3 player.

I have no problem with people who have grown up with computers and use them for fun/entertainment (like me- I am 27).
It's the 'Johnny come latelies' I don't like who jump on the bandwagon about 5 years after something actually comes out and then mistakenly think that they are cutting edge (I am thinking of a lot of PS2 owners too).
Computers are just like any other entertainment system or artform- watching films does not make you Steven Speilberg and using computers does not make you Bill Gates.

No, to the people behind the computers. The machines themselves haven't developed their own will ala Terminator, but it's reached the point where there is no escaping them. Try getting almost any type of job where you don't have to be computer literate.
