Sounds like your hinges have sprung. Try taking the door off of the dryer. Check and see if the screw holes are enlarged. You can reinstall the hinges at a different location. It may only be one that will have to be moved. This is not hard. Usually the screws that come with a dryer door hinge is a self tapping screw. That means that you do not have to use a drill bit to make a hole. The screw itself will do it for you. Mark a dot thru the hinge where you would like the new hole. Then use an electric screwdriver to force it into the dryer side. You will also have to do the same thing on the door side. When you are finished you can attached the door to the dryer. Should be fixed by then. You might want to ask your family who tried to shut the dryer door witn a pair of blue jeans hanging out. That is usually how a door get sprung! Good luck.

If the catch isn't worn out, try closing the door just to the contact point and measuring the gap between the edge of the door and the machine, do it top and bottom. If there is a difference, try bending the door just a tiny bit to change the measurements to equal each other. If the same to start with, the catch is worn out.
On the other hand the load may be too great and it is popping the door open. Fewer cloths.......

hi. this will be easy if your dryer has the adjustment:
I have just looked at our dryer- there is a small amount of adjustment on the door latch and the bit on the machine it goes into. If you can see the screw which holds the latch on, when you loosen the screw a little bit, you can move the latch down just a little bit. Then tighten the screw.
Alternatively, adjust the hole on the washer body that it goes into.

Your door catch most likely is broken inside. Go to your local appliance parts store and they should have one on their shelves. They just pop out with the help of a small screwdriver and you pop the new one right in. When you see the new part you will understand how it is done. For the time being you can use a piece of duct tape or prop a chair or a piece of 2x4 against the door to keep it closed.
