You're welcome to use your own definition of what you think constitutes "good" people.

My pick: Texas. They're the friendliest, most open and charitable people I've ever met. I've never met a Texan I didn't like...and I've met a lot of them! And look at the mass generosity they showed to Hurricane Katrina evacuees (of course, the consequences are starting to show as the crime rate increases in Houston.) I'm not even from there.

Mississippi ranks up there, probably my second-place pick. Friendly, hard-working, happy people.

whisperofsmoke36: I agree w/ you. Tennessee is nice, with (mostly) nice people. Natives of the Carolinas, Arkansas, and Georgia are much the same way. But I'm still staying w/ TX and MS as my top two picks.

B_V: No offense to you, but you think Kentucky is friendly? That's like saying a wooden indian can understand nuclear physics, or Manhattan is a rural area. They're not helpful at all unless they know you, and even then they have to know you pretty well.

Colorado because people aren't judgemental if you don't have as much money as them. They are very laid back people for the most part. Coloradans are more open minded. I lived in illinois and moved to Colorado for about 6 years and now I am back in illinois. I can definitely see the difference

No way Kentucky is got to be the nicest state on Earth!! Especailly Russell Springs, it's a tight-knit community where everyone knows everybody and everyones friends! I've never met a person in Kentucky that wouldn't help out in anyway they could. The school in Russell Springs helped alot for Katrina, they had the students bring in canned foods and water and we loaded tons of semi's to send out there!!!! There's no way that Kentucky cannot be the nicest state.

Pennslyvannia and West Virginia those people in those states will do anything for you. They are so nice. Everybody says hi to you. They always want to conversate with you. If you have a problem the will help you.

I was in a pizza shop in Morgantown, WV by myself. I was minding my business, when this girl with one of her friends sat down at my table. They said I looked like I needed cheering up and was lonely. I explained to them that I was visiting from out of town. They ended up spending the afternoon with me showing me around. I didn't even hit on these girls or anything. I tried to take them shopping at Morgantown Mall as a nice way of saying thanks. And they declined. They did ask that I meet later for drinks at this place called The Sports Page. I went and they were there. I had a great time. That is some friendly people.

I am Canadian and having travelled extensively throughout the US I've interacted with a lot of Americans. I have not been to HI, MS, AL, WY or ID but offer the following opinion:
The nicest people come from:
1-New Mexico - people were laid back and interested in sharing their culture and not overly concerned about rushing around like large-city folk (like me).
2-Minnesota - it was like talking to someone from home.
3-Kansas
4-Pennsylvania
-but-
at the bottom of my list is New Hampshire. Sorry folks but I did not find you to be very amicable in my 2 month-long visits there.
