At times I do NOT feel like opening up to others, though I'm pretty much like an open book. When I do not wish to open up, I crack jokes or play funny. That's also the way my older brother chooses to "shut" people out from his mentality or heart. I guess for me it's because I just don't wish to talk or try to hide my true feelings from others. People gossip, and that's another reason for me to not open up. When I'm tired, I don't want to open up either. I'm like this with my parents as well. What about you people? If you ever feel afraid to open up, when do you feel it and why? I'd like to know why people do not open up some times. Your sharing is greatly appreciated.

Most people spend their lives behind their public "face". And the only people they open up to are those they choose to love, if they have proven themselves trustworthy.

Your not wanting to be open all the time, is a completely normal reaction to the untrustworthiness of the world.

I think that all people have this feeling at some point in there lives.
I find that if i am feeling threaten by someone i will shut down.
I also find that opening up brings up the past and for me the past is not something that i want to remember ( well not some of it)
When you open up to someone you are left with that person maybe juding you and that can be a fright ful thing.
In my relationship now we've been together for over a year and there are still things that i haven't opened up about. All in good time though.

Sometimes it takes more courage to speak out your heart with utmost honesty than what you require in during war. This clearly outlines the fact that life is more difficult than what we think. Emotions are close to the heart. It tells what you are from the inside. Some people like to be mysterious to others thus they build a shield around their own personality and try to let people guess what they are.

If one truly trusts a close friend then one can definitely relate his true feelings to him/her. But not all are blessed with a good friend or they lack the quality of trusting anyone for that matter.

At times I don't wanna open up when I am in a bad mood, cuz I know people would try to help and ,well usually if a person is in a bad mood they hear stuff the wrong way in their mind and are afraid they will end up biting the head off of the people trying to help them..

so to sum it up,I guess they don't wanna drag people down with them and risk hurting ones they care about..

I know I shut down to everyone when I am depressed or hurt,I just put a everythings okay faceon, but if I they read my eyes and ask whats wrong,I say nothing really.

Yes, because I feared that someone would use the information I told them against me somehow. I've also felt uneasy about opening up sometimes because I feared that once the person knew "something" about me...they wouldn't like me anymore...or would have negative thoughts about me.

There are many many other reasons people don't open up to other people. Lack of trust in that person is probably the main reason. Just think of your personal feelings as your credit card. How many people do you actually trust your credit card with?

I tend to talk a lot less when I'm tired or in a bad mood. I kind of just shut everyone out so I can deal with whatever's going on by myself. Sometimes I'm afraid to open up with guys I like, or date, just because I'm afraid to like them too much and make myself vunerable to being hurt.

Most if not all peoples reactions are based on fear it's not easy for anyone to open up to others. Inner self and the private perceptions of ones self generally limit all of us in this and other aspects of society. I found that to let go and let God works for me if you can learn to trust in god or your higher power to take care of the things in life that you have no control of life becomes a great deal easier. Be good and God bless...

we all do, because we all fear rejection and being hurt, by those things that are closest to our hearts.
