The fuel guage has no litres marking except Empty mark. It is difficult to know whetehr you have 5 ltrs or 8ltrs or 15 before you plan your trip or whether the gas station has filled in the fuel correctly. The system seems to be poorly designed. Has any one calibrated the guage, like 3marks from E is say 5 ltrs or 12`o clock positon is 14ltrs m 11`oclock position 8ltrs etc?? OR has any one fitted a digital guage[meter] for the fuel level reading??

The Gauge is just an indicator in most cars. You can stick some paper cut -out and mark the paper.

When you think the tank is just about empty, you mark R at the needle for reserve, fill it up and mark "F" for full. Say you took 8 gallons, of gas put total of 9 line at equal distant, and mark them 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, you have already marked "R" and "F". This gauges are non linear but it will give you slightly batter idea about the amount of gas in the tank.

I am used to gallons here, but you can mark it at 10 ltrs interval. At one litter it will get too massey difficult to read also.

PS

You can carry exactly five liter of gas in a container and drive till you run out of gas. You can mark that zero, put five liter and mark that 5. and then fill up and mark the rest , this will give you eaxact for 5 and empty. The gauge's niddle always stick little from time to time. You must tap the gauge before marking.

Fuel level meters are never as accurate as people would want. Just get used to when on the gauge the engine runs out and try it once with a Two gallon gas can to put in and get to the fuel station. That way you will know past that mark I will be walking! Two gallons plus what ever the filling station put in is the amount the tank holds. Reset the trip meter and after a couple of keeping track of how far divided by liters or gallons you will know how far you can travel, and how much petrol/gasoline it will take to get you there and back. That 800cc engine should get 60 miles a gallon on the highway right? Wow the ad says airconditioning little cars have come a long way in India.
