I see people walk around with a baseball cap resting on their head, bright blue Nike tracksuit, chain round their neck outside their clothes, cigarette hanging out of their mouth...and I just wonder why the heck would anyone want that image?

Because it's easier for them to be like sheep than to be an individual.

I think that Burberry is the source. The first time the old tan Burberry baseball cap goes on the head it starts to zap the educated braincells away and replaces them with Buckfast cells which makes people crave Buckfast.

Once the buckfast is purchased (most probably stolen) it is then ingested and it re-wires the DNA to transform the person in to a total NED. Soon the tracksuit with socks tucked in and Burberry cap at 75degrees will indicate a complete transormation.

NEDS are the future for de-evolution, soon the NEDS will grow more body hair and posture will go. Posture has already started to go - have you seen a NED pushing a pram??? Why is it always at arms length?

After the posture and the hair growth, i'm quite sure that the next generation of NED will be chimpanzees (not meaning to insult the chimps!).

It's Personal Choice. And It's How People Feel Comfortable. If Someone Wants To Wear A Tracksuit Etc. Then Fair Enough, It Doesn't Make Them A Bad Person. Just How They Want To Dress.

I think you are ignorant of the origin of the title Chav.

I come from Gloucestershire, 10 miles from Cheltenham and know the history of this term.

It came from Cheltenham Ladies College, where the daughters of the over privilleged come to be educated and turned into top totty. Chav is CHeltenham AVerage. a derogatory term when used by Ladies College goddesses but for lads from outside Cheltenham it describes someone far above average.
Ladies college training is such that chain wearing, cigarette smoking tracksuited individuals, should be selling the Big Issue, or considered as potential Gardeners, and should under no circumstances be considered for potential Bonkational compatability.

A true Chav would be among the smartest dressed blokes in almost any major town in the UK, it is the off the peg, rather than made to measure, that failure to quite make the grade which originally defined the Chav.

Presumably the term Chav is currently used as a euphemism for London AVerage, or Liverpool AVerge in place of the proper term of LAV

I think though it's just the sad sorry flavour of the week .
It seems to be a global phenomena inspired by rap music and the over Mcdonaldization of the world.
