I wouldn't EVER want to divide society, that is a large part of their problems!
(However if you wanted to divide society, then all you need to do is to raise parts of them; all with contradicting and differential belief systems. Then teach them different languages so their communication system would be misinterpreted by each other if any of them do decide to still try to talk to each other. Then have offencive material about the other societies beliefs and culture on the media.
That is the most effective way I can possibly think of to divide society!

I think that a lack of communication skills is the biggest divide in society, and I think that a lack of education in our language of choice, is causing a lack of interaction in all of our societies. Which is what's causing so many people to feel lonely, and to not speak to each other very often, or tell each other about how they feel about things.
I know what you meant by this comment; that it wasn't meaning how would we physically "divide" people in a negative way. But I strongly believe whenever you divide people, for example when you put "classifications" on people or other animals, then you "separate" and "disassociate" them from yourself. Which causes very sad and unnecessary confusion and separation.
Which I believe is something we shall never try for, nor want, we should always live together that is what a "Society" is! :]

I would divide society by their pecking order, Alpha on top and all others below meee.
in seriousness though, for what purposes are you dividing society??? Once you have your purpose set down, then the correct way of ordering the raw data, will come to you..
