I think Whoopi Goldberg had it right when she said that she doesn't check off "African American" on the forms she fills out...she said she's not African, she's an American, so she just checks "Other".
Good attitude...I am not a German American, even though if I go back enough generations it is there, nor a European American, nor a Native American, again that's there too. I'm just an American.
Like most of the blacks are.

before you question political correctness, I would highly recommend you research the history of slavery or blacks in america to see how they came up with african american. Believe me they were called other names that we no longer use. Respect it.

It is politically correct because everyone is pussy-footing around with treatment of blacks. Why are they so easily offended? Why am I not referred to as "Scotch-Irish American"? Just "American" is good enough for me. Hell, I don't care if they call me a "Cracker". Makes no difference to me. By the way, some of my best friends are black. I have no resentment toward them, nor them toward me.

Is it politically correct to use the term "European American" when addressing white people?
You won't find the term on ANY government documents.

Dear Miss Meany;
One must assume that you are trying to be Politically Correct, however, when one uses the phrase "Race Card" one must assume that you are not particularly concerned in our Race regarded as "The Human Race".

That's just like when Kermit the frog demanded to be called "amphibian-american". Somehow, Kermit the amphibian-america just doesn't appeal to me.

probably because 'black' refers to the skin color which used to be a base for discrimination in the past. we call white people 'white' because they weren't discriminated (if they were that it didn't happen very often) because of their skin color.

This is easy, call them whatever you want so long as it doesn't offend whatever race is in question at the time.
