I am not sure of your age, but if you defaulted on the loan 30 years ago, then you might be old enough to get your fee waived, not sure what they call that exactly, but you can talk to the financial aid officer about it. You may want to take some adult education classes and brush up on your computer skills first since a lot of it depends on that.

You need to pay it off. In fact, I am surprsied that they have not garnished your wages yet, you must have dropped of the proverbial radar.
You could always go to a community college an pay cash. Some states offer lottery assistance, but to get it you must fill out the government FAFSA form, so your past will catch up with you. If you pay cash it is a non-issue. Tuition is about $900 a semester for most accredited community colleges.

I did it to when I was younger, and the amount of the loan is so unbelieveable now thanks to my own stupidity. But thank goodness I've been able to consolidate and get the interest rate down and my monthly payments to a minimum. Try sallie mae.com talk to a consultant , I'm sure that they will be able to help you somehow. Who knows, if you have a limited income you may qualify for more than you think. Best of luck and I hope things work out in your favor

If you defaulted on a student loan 30 years ago it is probably not on your credit recoed any more. Go ahead and try for financial aid.
My other suggestion is to go on welfare if you are poor. Generally, you can get help going to college if you are on welfare.
