At your desk? In the library? In the tub? (smile) Sitting on a rock? Under a tree?

In the past, sadly... usually at a cafe that no longer exists called Chez Cappuccino. Everyone just called it "chez caps". It was long before Starbucks ever arrived... a really cool 24 hour cafe with an antique Gaggia machine, an eccentric owner who played good jazz, and a cat that prowled all the tables. The walls were dark green, and there were lots of little tables tucked into all the nooks and crannies. You could just get lost for hours sitting there and writing. The owner once put on a CD and announced loudly "free cappuccino to anyone who can name this musician". My brother was only sixteen at the time, but recognized it as Jango Reinhart. The owner was so impressed we both got free coffee all night. It was that kind of place. I still smoked back then, so I would sit at a corner table and write in a battered note book, cigarette in hand. If I was feeling especially inspired, I would chain-smoke feverishly... as if the smoke could somehow fuel my creativity (maybe it did). To go faster I needed to shovel more coal into the engine. Lol. Anyway, that was my favourite place to write. Sadly, the cafe closed and then was reopened by new owners. They gutted the place and repainted it in bright, "cheerful" colours with little stainless steel chairs in place of all the wood. I mourned the loss of my beloved chez caps, and wondered what ever became of the owner.

I'm a poet and I write home. I can be sitting in my big brown comfortable armchair or I can be on the edge of my bed (this is usually because I have already gone to sleep, but suddenly, I am inspired and I turn on the light to write some lines down before I forget them).

But I don't write regularly. Something strange comes over like I am possessed and then I write my thoughts pouring out of me.

I write with a pen and a big yellow pad or any lined paper usually. I think I usually become possessed in the evening or late night - I don't know why.

Most of the time, my best writing for longer works is done on the computer. I tend to think fast, and the only way my hands can catch up to my thoughts and still end up with comprehensible work is to do type it out on the computer.

For shorter works, I do my best writing in a notebook with good paper and a signpen with a .5 nib. The location is not always important; as long as I can find a stable place to rest my notebook on I can write practically anywhere except in a moving vehicle.

Well, the writing is of course done on the computer, wherever that might be, it is its own world, but if you mean where do I get my best ideas.. I think in moving vehicles for some odd reason - more so if not driving.. When I first moved to Thailand, I took a lot of busses and found myself listening to music and constantly jotting down ideas.. now that I drive, less so but it does free up my mind..

good luck

I get ideas from just about everywhere. I see or hear something and start plotting in my head. Drives my girlfriend mad when we're out shopping! Sometimes the ideas take off and lead to a good story, sometimes they don't and just fade away.
Once I have the plot, I then start drawing out the characters and their personalities.
Once the outline is clear to me I sit down in my living room, turn on the computer and type! Sometimes what I type gets published!!

It comes and goes. I don't write very often, but when I do it usually comes from a little surprise muse visit. Some films prompt this feeling. Anything by David lynch usually accesses the subconscious rather nicely

In my computer room. Yet my best writing is often done when I have a paid assignment due the following day.

I usually write better at night time so I either write in bed, or I get up and write at my desk. I think I think clearer at night-time!

I'm no author...however, occassionally I attempt to write. Unfortunately, the outcome is always the same....which leads me to believe I shouldn't write at all. I'm better at reading. And I love to read the writing of someone who is so good at it. Like...hmmmm.....who comes to mind? Lemme think. Oh yeah! YOU. *smacks forehead with hand*

I did all my best writing in grade school. My mommy used to tell me..."Dysey, that was the best piece of writing ever!" and she'd stick it up on the fridge so everyone could view my eloquent prose.

Then she'd tell everyone that saw it that..."The 'D-' stands for Delightful!"
