Is it against the law to leave an 11 1/2 y.o child at home alone in Michigan?

I have to say though I wouldn't trust my son home alone @ the age of 11 1/2. The other question I have, how long are you leaving the child home alone? Is it to run a errand? Do you have anyone who can watch over them? Etc. Etc.

There are only two states that have laws against leaving children at home. Michigan isn't one of them. However they do have guidelines in each state as to when a child can be left at home. It doesn't go by age, but capabilities of the child. Do they know how to take care of themselves? Do they know what to do in an emergency? Are there rules for answering the door and telephone? How long is the child going to be at home?
You can call your local social services office and obtain the information on their guidelines as each county sets their own.

It is unsafe for a child to be left alone in a house because you wouldn't know what they're doing while you're away. Have a babysitter or have a neighbor watch him/her. It's dangerous to leave them especially at night.

Leaving a child unattended is bad parenting and even if there is no law, that should be one...

no. If they are responsible enough to know how to react in a situation and have contact with an adult close by, then I say its ok
