Well, no, you can't, BUT....

There is a lesser known connection game called IQ-5. It was published by a small (now out of business) company called Varioplay. Too bad, because this is my favorite tic-tac-toe kind of game. Here you are connecting FIVE in a row, and there is a similar board to Connect Four. Thee slots are deeper in IQ-5 because the pieces are three dimensional. Your goal is to get a similar color on your side of the board five spaces in a row. HOWEVER, the pieces are double sided, so you CAN unknowingly set up your opponent for a win. Very clever game. It is out of print, but still available at funagain games. (www.funagain.com) Expensive, but to me worth it: 30 bucks.

To answer your question: No you can't. If connect four isn't complex enough for you, and you want a way for a player to play someone else's color, buy IQ-5. If Connect Four is too much for you, get a piece of paper, two pencils, and play Tic-Tac-Toe. It's cheaper and less complicated.

No because it is impossible for something to just appear and correctly position itself on the board, therefore leaving it impossible for humans to do.
